These are some pics of my tattoo. I finally got one after I had been discharged for 15 years I always wanted to get the bulldog with campaign cover on my arm but never did get around to it for whatever reasons. So on my 37 th birthday my younger brother and a friend took me to a friend of his tattoo shop and paid for my tattoo making thid Marine a happy camper.

Oohrah Tattoo

I finally got my Oohrah tattoo! I did my time in the Marine Corps, which in my opinion wasn't long enough. I miss it like crazy! i've been out for over 3 years already, but i still brag about being a Marine. Like they say, once a Marine, always a Marine, and trust me, I have not forgotten that!
It's very girly, but means alot to me! I hope you like it!

Tattoo and Why

One day I was thinking about getting another tattoo. Trying to find soemthing to describe who I am; a thought came over me. I wanted to show my pride about being a Marine Devil Pup. I went to my local tattoo artist ( the shop's owner is a former Marine). I told him I wanted a design made around the globe and anchor. He told me to come back in a few days and he will show me his design. A few days later I was back at the shop. The moment I saw the design, my eyes filled with tears. It was so awesome. After two hours of work, I must say he did a splendid job. I went to the American Legion that night to show my dad ( he is commander of the Legion). He was so proud and gave me a big hug. Now I can't go to the Legion with out showing all the vets. I am so proud of my father and my stepfather. They have served the Corps proudly. It was the least I could do to show I was proud to be a Devil Pup... forever.

Marine Corps Tattoo

I personally think the new ban on our hard charging devil dogs getting ink done is STUPID!!! so we can go to foreign countries and lay our lives on the line but we can't get tattoos on our body!!!! The Commandant says we don't want to tarnish our polished looks....come on now we are MARINES....we get down and do the dirty stuff nobody else want to do, that is what we are known for. Not for being neat and clean and polished. Let our MARINES get their ink done so that they can continue to keep their morale and show their pride to all.

Some Gave All Tattoo

In recent sgt grit emails there have been mention to different tattoos Marines have gotten and the reasoning behind them. I just wanted to share my husband's tattoo and why he chose this design. We were traveling down south last summer and we were outside Camp Lejeune visiting a cousin. My husband ran across the place where he received his first Marine Corps tatto after his bootcamp and training. He had talked about getting another tattoo since he returned from his deployment, so this seemed the time and the place. He chose a design to remember the 48 Marines that were killed from his battalion during their deployment. And it was actually designed by a fellow Marine. It was an awesome design and my husband proudly wears this tattoo on his back. Hope you enjoy!

Couple of photos

Here are a couple of photos for your tattoo page. The first is of a tattoo I had gotten in San Diego on my left forearm. The guy did such a poor job that I told him to stop before he started the artwork. Fast forward 25 years, I decided to have it covered up. After seeing a couple of photos on your site, I decided to have two versions blended into one. This is what the guys at Southern Tattoo in Hattiesburg, MS were able to come up with yesterday . I had forgotten how much these darn things hurt.

First Tattoo

Sgt Grit,
Here is my first tattoo. Just got this done last week and I am already thinking of adding more.

Marine Mom Sisters

We are Marine Moms who are also sisters. We decided to show our support to our Marines, SGT. Bradley Etzweiler and LCPL Amber Waterland by getting Marine Mom tattoos.

We were very fortunate our Marines were able to be home to spend some time together before Brad had to leave for Embassy Guard Duty. We went to visit the National Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, VA . The museum was excellent and well worth seeing. At the end of our tour we relaxed at Tun Tavern (located inside the museum) and enjoyed the sweet potato fries and beer.

Pic of my new tattoo

Hope you can post this ppic of my newest Marine Corps tattoo. I wanted to get someting original and personal to me, so I decided to have my ribbon display done. Had it done on the inside of my left arm (Unfortunately I could not have it done on my chest as I already have a tattoo there) Thanks to Rick Johnson (also a Marine) of Best Tattoos in Orlando for the work. SEMPER FI!!

Will's Tattoos

My baby daughter is a jarhead

I served from 1970-75 and again briefly in 1977 to attend OCS (PLC) at Quantico. I had the opportunity to serve with both the 1st and 3rd Air Wings on the east coast and lovely destinations across the Pacific. Interesting times, but when back in the world, people couldn't have cared less regarding the sacrifices made by my generation. Through it all I remained a fiercely proud (if somewhat silent) Marine Sergeant in retrograde.

When my 18 year old daughter announced to her mother and I in 2004 that she had decided to become a Marine, I was filled with pride and more than a little bit of concern. Needless to say she has made the transition from a contrary, stubborn, hardheaded teenager who hung around with booger-eating moron losers, to an intelligent, considerate, responsible Corporal of Marines. If our beloved Corps should find itself in need of a recruiting model for posters--she's your man! This past July, she married another Marine who would also make good poster material, and they are currently stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Iwakuni Japan. Both are members of the elite Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting MOS and they are in constant competition to outdo one another on their PFT scores.

In my years as an active duty Marine I was never able to get drunk enough to get a tattoo, but when my daughter Errin wanted to get matching tattoos, I couldn't resist. Please note the attached picture of Errin on her wedding day showing her version of body art.

It gives me enormous pride to see how the people of our country respect these young leaders. As far as I am concerned, all is personally forgiven for the lukewarm (at best) reception given to my generation of the Armed Forces in the 60's and 70's.

Todays Marines Rock!!!

Custom Eagle Globe and Anchor Tattoo

This is a photo of my most recent tattoo. I wanted a large eagle, globe and anchor covering my left shoulder but wanted something original. Kinda hard to make something original from such a distinguished and common design. I sent some basic ideas along with the history of the symbol to my sister-in-law who is attending the Art Institute of San Francisco. She has no concept of the military at all let alone the Marine Corps so I figured she would be able to come up with something a bit original and sure enough I loved what she came up with. I got the tattoo done in Okinawa by "Blue" who works out of his home by Camp McTureous in May of 2006.

Memorial Tattoo

SGT GRIT,

I always come on your page looking at everyone's tattoo's. I have been wanting a memorial tattoo to honor the friends of mine I lost in Afghanistan. I served there in 2005. My deployment was cut short because I was hit by a IED. It took me about six months to get back on my feet but im finally up and walking again. The tattoo is the American flag in the background that wraps all the way around my arm, and it has a statue with the eagle globe and anchor up top. On the plaque it says " O.E.F. ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL". It was done by Stephen at Alien Art Tattoo in Jacksonville, North Carolina (910-353-2520)

30 Years Later

I am an avid reader of my Sgt. Grit e-mail publication and have often viewed the tattoo section. Well here I am on the right with my brother on the left 30 years later with new tats. His very first and my fourth. We were both "newbie's" together at Camp Schwab "Kilo" 3/9, 0351's in 1975. We then ended up, both of us as Troop Handlers at Infantry Training School Camp San Onofre. Him with Delta Co. and I with Alpha Company. We were then discharged, honorably of course, in 1979. He is presently serving with a civilian consultant in communications with an Army unit in Mosul Iraq. While visiting me here in my home in Phx. Az he casually mentioned that he has been wanting an EGA tat and I said, let's go. As you well know, the picture says it all!

To Sgt. Grit and the many service men and women here and abroad, GOD BLESS, MERRY CHRISTMAS, MELE KELEKIMAKA, HAPPY KWANZA, HAPPY HANUKKAH, FLEIZ NAVIDAD and Happy Holidays! If I have left any out, my apologies.

They day I left bootcamp I got the first one, and once I got back home I got the bulldog. My wife came to visit me and she got the Semper Fi on her lower back, I recently added to my sleeve, it has a Grim Reaper and Angel on it, says "Pray for peace" on my right arm and "Prepare for war" on my left, also has 0311 at the bottom in smoke.

Awesome Marine Tattoo

My wonderful wife of 40 years paid tribute to me with this very original tattoo when I retired. Master Tattooist/Ricky Bailey/G.A.S. Tattoo's Longview Texas used old pics so decorations are behind the times, but I am still in awe and forever honored and thankful.

Emblem Tattoo

I can't believe I made it through my years in the Corps without getting a tattoo, so here I am 8 years later with my first one (of many since I'm hooked now). Thanks to Vanessa at Holy Oak tattoo in Holyoke, MA for the awesome job she did. A special thanks to all the Marines out there serving our country, wherever they may be. Be safe and Semper Fi.

USMC Skull and Emblem Tattoos

My daughter’s school honored all veterans this past Veteran’s Day with a breakfast and school assembly. It’s amazing how all us Marines, from young to old; still show our Esprit De Corps! When asked to stand, we all shouted out with a blood curdling bark or Ooooooh Raaaaah! Gave me chills!!! So after being out for 12 years, I finally decided to honor our fallen brothers by getting some ink. First I decided to get the EGA from my high school buddy, Brian Berky, who is a great artist. A week later, Brian called and said he had a new idea of a piece for my back I might like. So, here it is.

Catching The Dragon

Sgt Grit,
I've been out of active service for about 11 years now and just recently I got my Marine Corps Tattoo. I wanted something that no one else had. So after much searching I found the artist to make my dream a reality. Lazlo Barath at A.S.I. in Salt Lake City Utah is that artist. I came to him with an idea and through his talent this piece is the outcome.

I served with Sierra Battery 5th battalion 10th Marines, Camp Lejeune, N.C. This tattoo has to do with a term used in artillery called "Catching The Dragon". All you "Gunrocks" out there will know the term I'm sure but those who don't here's what it means. When a round is fired and you have a shit hot #1 man he can quickly catch and crack the breach igniting the hot gasses inside causing flames to roll out the tube. Its an awesome sight especially at night. I hope you all enjoy the 13+ hours it took.
